Our lab studies how coasts change by connecting remote sensing & GIS with field surveys to address real coastal challenges. We monitor change and build models that inform shoreline stabilization, seagrass and marsh mapping, habitat conservation, and coastal management.
Research Focus
Our current work centers on four themes:
1. Shoreline change and stabilization — tracking how barrier islands respond to storms, seasonal cycles, and the installation of nature-based shoreline structures at Sugarloaf Island.
2. Seagrass and marsh habitat monitoring — mapping how nearshore vegetation shifts around living shoreline installations at Pine Knoll Shores.
3. Remote sensing and GIS workflows and data curation — building repeatable methods for processing and sharing coastal data.
4. Applied coastal resilience — providing spatial analysis that supports managers and communities.
Our Crew
Our lab is built on collaboration, with students and partners working side by side in the field and lab.
Join the Lab
We welcome motivated students who want to apply geospatial tools to coastal science.
